About the co-operative
Women who decided to build their own financial institution
Taumba SACCO is registered under the Co-operative Societies Act, Chapter 24:05, and comprises women drawn from women-owned businesses across Zimbabwe.
Who we are
Taumba SACCO is a Zimbabwean women-led organisation serving women entrepreneurs in manufacturing, farming, services, fashion and beyond. We provide financial support, export coaching, networking and a sense of belonging.
The co-operative was founded in March 2023, and its members bring more than fifteen years of collective experience. Our aim is to help women grow their businesses and take their products and services to markets beyond Zimbabwe.
We work towards the Sustainable Development Goals, and we do it the way co-operatives have always worked: members put money in, members decide together, and members share what the co-operative earns.
Vision, mission and motto
Vision
To be a leading women-led SACCO in the provision of financial products, services and working space for its members.
Mission
To provide prompt, quality and efficient lines of service through effective administration of credit for the socio-economic advancement of members.
Motto
Soaring beyond limits
And the promise on everything we print: create, believe, belong.
Core values
Six words the board and the membership hold each other to.
- Transparency
- Innovativeness
- Accountability
- Equity
- Teamwork
- Integrity
The principles we operate by
These practices are shared by the co-operative movement worldwide. They shape how the society relates to every member.
- Open and voluntary membership
- Our doors are open to all who wish to join and fall within the accepted common bond. Members may withdraw provided they have no outstanding obligations.
- Democratic control
- Members vote and participate in decisions through elected delegates. A member is valued for who she is, not what she owns. One member, one vote at the general meeting.
- Non-discrimination
- The society does not discriminate on account of political, religious, race or gender diversity. Unity and harmony are the spirit we keep.
- Limited interest on capital
- We exist to render service, not to maximise profit. Interest paid on savings and shares is limited and proportionate to the interest charged on loans.
- Co-operative education
- A well-informed membership is the key to success. We keep members educated on the society and on co-operative philosophy.
- Co-operation among co-operatives
- We strengthen bonds with affiliate co-operative organisations. Solidarity is how we achieve more than we could alone.
The goals we work towards
Our members joined to build businesses, and to play their part in the Sustainable Development Goals. These eight are where our work lands.
- No poverty
- Zero hunger
- Good health and well-being
- Industry, innovation and infrastructure
- Sustainable cities and communities
- Responsible consumption and production
- Climate action
- Partnerships for the goals
